Put a photo, scan or PDF page under the drawing to trace over it.
The Tracing tool (W)
Add a tracing image… (in the tool's options) opens an image or PDF:
- PNG and JPEG are shown at the resolution saved in the file (for example a 300 dpi scan comes in at true size). If the file doesn't say, 96 dpi is used; set the right DPI in the options.
- PDF: choose the page (if there are several). It is drawn at 300 dpi, true size.
A new image is placed to the right of the others.
Working with an image:
- Click an image to pick it: its outline and pivot (a crosshair) show.
- Drag to move it.
- Drag the pivot, or right-click to put it at the cursor.
- Alt+wheel turns the image about the pivot; Alt+Shift+wheel scales it.
Options: Image (choose among the images), X and Y (its top-left corner), Rotation, DPI, Opacity (tick it and use the slider), and Delete image.
H shows or hides all tracing images; while they are shown, View all (Ctrl+R) fits them too. All changes are undoable. Images are saved in the project and are never exported; they are printed only when you tick Print tracing images in the print dialog.
With the Select tool, double-click an image (where there's no shape) to pick it and switch to the Tracing tool.
